A Fall Harvest yoga brain break is a one and half page sequence that guides students through basic, and a couple lesser known or more difficult, yoga poses that transitions children from standing to kneeling and reclining with a fun fall, non-secular sequence. Most importantly, it gets oxygen flowing to the brain and in turn can increase focus and concentration following this activity. This sequence has multiple opportunities to focus on the breath. It also ends with taking a few balloon breaths in corpse pose, or Savasana.
Yoga, when used as a brain break, helps with improving classroom management, classroom community and increase desired behaviors. It gives students the ability to physically move around, expend some energy, notice their feelings in the moment without labeling them as good or bad, practice mindfulness, as well as calm and activate the brain to increase focus for the remainder of the school day.
The Boardmaker pictures can be easily displayed on an interactive white board or printed and used with a document camera. The pictures are appropriate and accessible for students of varying abilities and across multiple grade levels.
I hope you enjoy this activity again and again with your students and/or children,
