Gossip is Like a Seed: A Social Skills Yoga Brain Break is the first in a series of brain breaks that will focus on a variety of social skills that school aged children and adolescents need into adulthood. This short 1 page brain break focuses on the negatives of gossip and illustrates with yoga poses how quickly it spreads, or grows from a seed to a forest. It is most appropriate for 2nd grade-middle school aged students that are gossiping or beginning to gossip and can understand what gossiping is.
Yoga, when used as a brain break, helps with classroom management and behaviors giving students the ability to physically move around, expend some energy, notice their feelings in the moment without labeling them as good or bad, as well as calm and activate the brain to increase focus for the remainder of the school day.
The Boardmaker pictures can be easily displayed on an interactive white board or printed and used with a document camera. The pictures are appropriate and accessible for students of varying abilities and across multiple grade levels.
I hope you enjoy this activity with your students.
