How Do Dinosaurs Play With Friends? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague is a fun story in which dinosaurs demonstrate unexpected and expected behaviors with friends. Reenact the story with 2 pages of yoga poses while teaching students to calm their bodies and brains while learning expected behaviors to demonstrate in a friendship. Great for back to school time or to build social skills and emotional self-regulation during the year. There are several yoga brain breaks adapted to Jane Yolen and Mark Teague’s dinosaur book series if you are interested to include these activities in an author study.
Incorporate a yoga brain break into your ELA block, story time, or anytime your students need to stretch and refocus. The Boardmaker pictures can be easily displayed on an interactive white board or document camera and are appropriate and accessible for students of varying abilities and multiple grade levels.
**Use common sense safety.** As this is a physical activity, please instruct students to do each pose carefully and take precautions for safety. The creator of this yoga brain break is not liable for any injuries that may be incurred while practicing.
Yoga brain breaks may help increase comprehension and may improve recall of story sequencing, especially for kinesthetic learners, when paired with literature. Brain breaks may assist in classroom management and build classroom community. Yoga helps to increase students’ focus while calming the body and mind.
