I Can Follow Directions: A Social Skills Yoga Brain Break is part of a series of social skills yoga brain breaks that will focus on a variety of social skills that school aged children, especially early elementary-aged students, need as they move through life. This brain break is a page and a half yoga sequence that guides students through basic yoga poses, in a variation of sun salutations, focusing on following directions. Of course all this moving gets oxygen flowing to the brain and in turn increases focus and concentration following this activity. The sequence begins and ends with taking a few deep, calming breaths.

Yoga, when used as a brain break, helps with classroom management and behaviors giving students the ability to physically move around, expend some energy, notice their feelings in the moment without labeling them as good or bad, practice mindfulness, as well as calm and activate the brain to increase focus for the remainder of the school day.
