Owl Moon Sequencing and Comprehension Packet

$4.05

Owl Moon by Jane Yolen teaches students in a beautifully illustrated story how figurative lanuage can enhance a simple story about a young girl and her father walking in the woods to look for owls. The illustrations and the language of this story makes it an interesting and entertaining story for a wide range of ages/levels.

This sequencing and comprehension packet is designed for 2nd-4th grades and homeschool students because of the focus on figurative language and how it and the illustrations enhances the story. Of course, this story is often enjoyed by much younger students and the sequencing packet, 1st writing prompt on retelling the story, and the comprehension questions could be used successfully with younger elementary students, with some guidance. This packet, as do my other comprehension and sequencing packets, provides students a visual element that is often needed in ESE and ESL classrooms using Boardmaker images, especially useful for visual learners and learners with special needs. The packet includes a sequencing activity with 2 sets of pictures to order (a 6 picture sequence followed by a 7 picture sequence), a pre-writing planning page, two writing prompts, a figurative language matching activity, four multiple choice comprehension questions with visual prompts, and 1 short answer question. Packet may be used as a group review or individual formative assessment. Because it is for multiple grades, select the questions, writing activities and questions most appropriate for the level of your students. The five comprehension questions can easily be cut apart for learners that need minimal items on a page. The planning page can be used for each writing activity, the short answer question, or to further examine vocabulary from the story. Answer sheet is included for the sequencing activity, figurative language matching activity, and the comprehension questions.
